Korean sunscreens are popular worldwide for one reason: light, no white cast, and high UVA protection (PA++++). Pick the right one for Dhaka's sun and sweat and wearing it every day becomes easy.
Read the label
- SPF 50+: protection from UVB (burning, redness). Never below 30.
- PA++++: protection from UVA (marks, melasma, lines). For our climate this matters more.
- Chemical or mineral: chemical filters are light and blend fast. Mineral (zinc oxide) is the pick for sensitive skin and pregnancy, and can look a little white.
How much, when
- Two finger-lengths for the face and neck. Apply less and SPF 50 behaves like SPF 15.
- Fifteen minutes before going out. Outdoors, again after two or three hours; over makeup, a sun stick is the easiest.
- Indoors by a window still counts; UVA comes through on cloudy days too.
Picks by skin type
- Oily / acne-prone: light, matte or "zero-cast" finish, non-comedogenic. — Anua Zero-Cast Moisturizing Finish Sunscreen SPF 50 50ml, SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Air-Fit Suncream Light 50ml
- Dry / dull: hydrating, a light glow; rice or hyaluronic types. — Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh Rice+B5 50ml, Medicube Glow Collagen Sunscreen 50ml SPF 50
- Sensitive / red: centella, fragrance-free. — IUNIK Centella Calming Daily Sunscreen 60ml
- Touch-ups, men, school kids: a stick, two seconds, no wet hands. — Beauty of Joseon Matte sun stick : Mugwort+Camelia 18g
Which one survives sweat?
No sunscreen survives sweat forever; "water resistant" means 40–80 minutes. On rickshaws and buses the answer is one midday reapplication, not a different sunscreen.
The mistakes everyone makes
- Face only, skipping ears, neck and the backs of the hands.
- Counting an SPF moisturiser or foundation as sunscreen (the amount is never enough).
- Not washing it off at night; sunscreen needs double cleansing.
On a melasma or dark-spot routine, sunscreen is the main step; see the melasma guide.
Sources
- American Academy of Dermatology: broad-spectrum, SPF 30+, reapply every two hours outdoors; most people apply less than half the amount needed.
- The Japanese/Korean PA grade states the level of UVA protection (PPD); PA++++ is the highest.
Cosmetics only, never medical advice.
